Description
In 2006, State of the Arts caught up with Russian ex-patriot concert pianist Vladimir Feltsman. He was preparing to play a Mozart concerto with the New Jersey Symphony using a replica of an 18th Century piano. Mozart would have known this kind of piano, but it is very different from the modern instrument. Producer Eric Schultz interviewed Feltsman at his home in the country near New Paltz, NY, and went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to record the world’s oldest known piano, an instrument made by Bartolomeo Cristofori in 1720.
