Description

Peruvian percussionist Hector Morales was born and raised in Lima, Peru, where he was immersed in the traditional music of his country’s coastal regions. He played the Cajon, a box-like percussion instrument for all family gatherings. As a teenager, he also fell in love with Jazz and this led him to the US to study percussion at William Paterson University. In the US, Hector has become a celebrated teaching artist and performer. We met him working with kids at the Summer Institute of Music for Children in Elizabeth, NJ and performing at the iconic Latin music venue, Terraza 7, in Queens, NY. In 2024, he received a New Jersey Heritage Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
