Description
The world-famous Westminster Choir joined forces with the contemporary music ensemble Bang on a Can to perform Julia Wolfe’s Pulitzer Prize-winning oratorio Anthracite Fields.
The work explores the history of coal mining in Pennsylvania’s Anthracite coal region and was performed in a former factory in Trenton, NJ where the Roebling Wireworks company manufactured the steel wire used to make the Brooklyn Bridge. Roebling was just one of many companies that relied on the Anthracite coal that fueled America’s industrial revolution. Choreographer Doug Varone staged the work. Dancer Whitney Dufrene performs and award-winning designer Jeff Sugg created the scenography and projections.
