We recently dropped by McCarter Theatre in Princeton for a preview of the existential, and very funny, play The Understudy. Before that evening’s performance, we spoke with Director Adam Immerwahr about working on a play about working on a play – specifically, a long-lost play written by Franz Kafka that is being performed on Broadway to sold out crowds – thanks to the Hollywood action-movie star in the lead role. The Understudy was written by Theresa Rebeck, best known for the hit television series Smash – another story about what goes on behind the scenes on Broadway.
