Description

Mary May brings to life the rich, 200-year history of basket making in South Jersey. Through her intricate weaving and hands-on teaching, she brings the history of this age-old craft alive, recreating baskets once used for fishing, charcoal making, and more. Mary teaches popular basket making workshops, and her own baskets are appreciated and collected for both their practical and cultural value. In 2024, Mary May received a New Jersey Heritage Fellowship from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts for her work preserving the history and practice of basket making in South Jersey.
