Winners of the 2024 New York Emmy Awards will be announced October 26—in the meantime, here are our nominated entries!

DBR & The New Jersey Symphony | Nominated in Diversity/Equity/Inclusion – Short Form Content

Producer Eric Schultz profiled Daniel Bernard Roumain (DBR), the New Jersey Symphony‘s Resident Artistic Catalyst, as he debuted a new composition written especially for the NJ Symphony, Farah (Joy). The Haitian-American composer, violinist, and activist collaborated with spoken-word poet, dancer, and actor Marc Bamuthi Joseph. The work ruminates on the black experience in America, community, things worth protesting, love, and joy.

Layqa

Nominated in Arts/Entertainment – Short Form Content

Producer Sam Vladimirsky met Indigenous Ecuadorian artist Layqa Nuna Yawar as he completed a colossal mural for Newark Airport’s newest terminal. The Newark-based artist created an historical mural that reflects the ongoing cycle of time, and that’s a tribute to people of all kinds. It’s one of the largest public arts projects since the days of Roosevelt.

The Wild Baskets of Steven R. Carty

Nominated in Nostalgia – Short or Long Form Content

Producer Susan Wallner met up with Steven R. Carty, a second-generation basket weaver from Mount Holly, near the Pine Barrens. He’s known for using wild materials, including invasive plants, as materials for his baskets. Included is a trip to Whitesbog Historic Village where Steven gathers wisteria vine, an invasive plant that is threatening native holly forests.

Additionally, State of the Arts’ production company PCK Media has received two nominations for the documentary Keeping the Pinelands, produced for NJ PBS: Musical Composition/Arrangement with Katya Richardson, and Environment/Science Long Form Content.

Wish us luck!
