A profile of silversmith Ubaldo Vitali, winner of a 2011 MacArthur Genius Award. A fourth generation silversmith from Rome, Vitali moved to the US in 1967. He’s been producing his own art in a traditional studio in Maplewood, NJ, while also restoring the work of others with an art historian’s attention to detail — his clients range from the Metropolitan Museum of Art to the Vatican.
