Description
State of the Arts takes a tour of six large-scale public art pieces in Camden, all installed on lots previously used by outsiders for illegal dumping. The City of Camden, Cooper’s Ferry Partnership, and Rutgers-Camden Center for the Arts created A New View to win the 2018 Bloomberg Philanthropies Public Art Challenge. Together they helped fund efforts to revitalize abandoned lots into community spaces, where artists installed highly-visible sculptures made from re-used materials. The public art structures were commissioned to draw attention to illegal dumping as well as to change outdated negative perceptions of Camden.
Bob Szuter produced the feature for State of the Arts. The videographer was Joe Conlon and Dan Gordon narrates.
